Just something I stumbled upon recently , a fascinating insight if you are into your old Fords.

Strangely, was introduced to someone yesterday and in his industrial unit there wasn't one Lotus Cortina but two, race prepared with roll cages, tyres flat and gathering dust but looking remarkably in good condition. Not for sale sadly since apparently they remind the owner of a happy youth. There's one photo in the Ford collection of a dasboard that reminded me of just how cheap and nasty some cars were in those days but even Ford couldn't make things as bad as my s**t coloured Marina one!

I suspect the plastic fantastic Sierra dash is the one being referred to ? possibly in competition with the Mk3 Escort for those 1980s sins that Ford were so guilty of although I do tend to refer to Marinas for worst colours , perhaps they were thinking of there potential market when they released hearing aid beige ??

Talk about a dream job. The guy in the pics with the fag is Ivan Bartholomeus. Great guy who worked for me back in the 80s.He was a Tool maker who served his apprenticeship at Ford.I had a call from him after our feature in Classic cars recently. Great to talk after so long.
Ivan went back to Ford and spent several years in the tool room again, before this job came up internally, maintaining Fords heritage collection. He successfully applied for it ( Lucky Barstard!). There are only two guys on the maintenance side and I am hoping to catch up with him at Goodwood this year.
I say dream job because it`s work without financial/ time restraints and the crap parts grief !

I can remember back in the very early 1980's, when the 'collection' consisted of FEV1H, the light green early production GT40 (which didn't appear to be there?) the replica Monte winning Mk1 Zephyr and the GT70 which was engineless and not a runner.....that was about it IIRC. And to be frank, Ford weren't really that interested in them all back then.

It's certainley expanded a bit from that, and fair play to Ford for finally putting their hand in their pocket and doing something about preserving their heritage.

Shame there's no Corsair, MKII, MKIII or MKIV Zodiac's, 1600E, RS3100, 105E, Pilot etc.,etc.

That registration number rings a bell, need to check my old photos, that maybe Dennis's old RS31.

Strange they have two Mex's, and an AVO RS2000 but no RS1600 or Twin Cam.
Or an RS1800?

I'm surprised they haven't offered a big enough cheque and prised X00349F out of Ken's hands or the RS1700T out of Malcolm's hands.

It's only a few shots I took at the new Focus RS launch. I've no idea what the complete collection consists of currently. There were loads of cars everywhere.

Very big aperture lens so I didn't have to use a flash or tripod.

Your eyesight is better than my ageing eyes then at reading the wing badge!

Looks like a silver on black Mexico one to me rather than the blue on silver RS1600 one?

Be more than happy for it to be a RS16 though smile

I cheated & looked up the registration number on the VRM at work! biggrin
The only other tell tale sign is the side stripe was only used on the RS1600.
