Went to Donnington on Tuesday to take some photos of my cousin that had hired a caterham R300 for the day and this thing was thundering round the track.

Possibly testing for goodwood in a couple of weeks.

Word in the pits was that its one of Tony Bamford of JCB diggers car collection.

He also had a Ferrari 250 GTO racers there in the morning but it met with a tire wall and had to be trailered off before I got there.

Anyone know what it is, I'm thinking Lola or Chevron?

Caused quite a stir when it reappeared.

It had been scrapped, and cut in two, but was saved by an employee.

Years later it was rediscovered in a London lock up and restored.

Nice piece on it in Octane a year or two back.

You sure it was his GTO in the tyres? If so a bloody shame but he has some wonderful cars in his collection. If you ever get the chance up near Uttoxer their private track round the lake is sphincter-tightening.

Not that im aware of, as they say "it'll buff out"

didnt get to see the car as it had left when i turned up.

I'm sure if you can afford on in the first place fixing it wont be too much hassel with the right people involved.

As I recall the lock up had to be cleared to make way for the Olympic site at Stratford.
The article that I read was in Classic and Sportscar.

Indeed. Brain freeze there.

It's not like there was a 6 page article on my car in the same issue or anything...

Are we getting confused with the Ford collection GT70 here ? Sir Anthonys GTO is a regular at the Goodwood revival sometimes driven by his son Jo Bamford.

The GTO didn't go in the tyres, it was the Ginetta. A new rad and nose cone later and it was out in the wet during the afternoon.
Had fun leading this GT40 for 3 laps, then following it for 3 laps, but once the track began to dry it drove off into the distance!

One of the BookaTrack Caterhams.

I was sharing it with a friend on his virgin trackday outing, and after two spins in the wet he decided to let me use it for most of the afternoon until the track dried out a little more.

The weather variety made the day interesting, but I would have preferred a little more dry time as I was only fully settling in to the car and the track (hadn't been in a Caterham for 3 years and hadn't driven Donnington for 10) shortly before the downpour.
When it's not your own car well worn avons, a greasy track and the associated costs of even going in the gravel make you think twice about taking chances in the wet!
