Ideally I'd love a Mark II Jag. But I can't fit wife, offspring AND two Greyhounds in the back.

So, what I'd like to know is, which 1960's Estate (that will take two big dogs) is the fastest?

thats a good question. i'm actually scratching my head just trying to think of 60s estates full stop, let alone the fastest - can't have been many about. i reckon some sort of merc or probably something quite humble like a cortina 2 litre
i await correction!

The triumph Mk1 2.5 Pi estate was a pretty rapid performer in it's day for a proper production car* rather than a conversion.

  • though they didnt make many.

And trying to find one today won't be easy. I can remember my Dad trying to find one back in the late 1970's, and he spent about 6 months trying and found one fairly ropey one for sale. In the end he bought a MK2 2000 estate instead, and chopped that in for a 2500S version a few years later.
I can remember one of his mates had a lovely dark green Mk2 2.5PI estate around 1977/78.

The other thing is the Rover 3500 estates that were converted, but are equally rare.

Rover 2000, but they didn't make many!

Escort Mexico? didn't make many of these either, and they may have been 70s!?

Scimitar - would the dogs fit?

Range Rover!

Volvo P1800?

A search reveals these contenders but I wouldn't know where they stand on being the quickest but they are available.

Introduced 1970, so almost 60s! There must have been some prototypes running in the 60s!

How about this? http://www.classicalfa.com/cars/1973%20Giulia%20Su...

I know that this example is 1973 but the car was first introduced in 1962, so it's essentially 'Sixties'.

http://www.winwaed.com/landy/history/rangerover.shtml says: "Production began in 1969 with 25 pre-production vehicles finished without rear seats and with minimal trim."

Triumph 2500 PI Mk2 - you'll find the odd one on a '69 H.

Stag V8 goes in very nicely if you don't fancy the Lucas PI setup, but the throttle response and the sound make it worth living with.
