I am trying to find another classic car restorer or local shop that can cadmium plate / yellow chromate parts / nuts / bolts / washers, etc. for me.

I fancy buying the Caswell kit but I dont think it is worthwhile for the amount of work I need done. How much should I expect to pay for this service?

I live near Winchester, Hampshire

Any help much appreciated

And on this one...I'd have a chat with Al (alsautomative) and/or Terry. Think both of these guys have mentioned places.

Failing that, Bernard (harmitc) would be my first port of call, followed by Paul of Hills (348GTB) wink

I bought a nickel plating kit off eBay for less that Frost charge for their kit, have used it quite a lot with some pretty good results. The various finishes just require different electrolyte and anodes, so it can be useful for other stuff.

I dont think it is actual cadmium that is used any more but some form of zinc alloy that gives the same protection and looks the same.

Phil,

This link will tell you something about what you want - zinc passivate with gold colouring. You do not need gold but this seems the most popular when cleaning old fasterners, brackets etc.

This is a relatively inexpensive process, pickling derusts the parts then they drop them into a passivating tank.

Just add zinc passivate and your county into Google and that should bring up a bunch of plating shops near you.

It looks pretty fresh out the tank, once on the car it will dull fairly quickly and btw, it has poor rust prevention qualities.

If you want that then grit blast and powder coat.

Been, there, done that, worn the teeshirt biggrin
