just conked out on the road in front of my house.

Apparently its a 30's chassis with a 40's body, fully restored and I mean like new and a 6.5 litre straight 8cyl engine.
He was a bit too busy trying to un-flood it to say much else...

Offered him the use of a phone (he had one anyway, who doesn't) and a battery charger if he needed it but he was a bit pre occupied trying to start it. It was cranking over for what seemed like ages so I thought his battery might take a big hit.

He said it was running on 5 cylinders or so until it had de flooded itself or something. He's gone now anyway.

When it did run it sounded quite unique, especially with that Blunderbuss exhaust!

I don't know much about these things but cranking a 6.5 litre engine would be a feat of strength I'd imagine

Looks like one of the Petersen cars... although they do more period looking bodies.

first registered in 1947, so its a post war chassied special (a mark 6 i guess), but modded up to look like a w.o bentley

it will probably have the post war 6 litre engine in it. (which are 6 cyl, i think the 8 cylinder was the 'b80' type which is the big fire truck motor)

I just don't understand the appeal of these things.

It's a fake WO Bentley look-alike made from later Rolls-Bentley bits. I don't doubt that the craftsmanship is excellent, but they cost not far short of a WO original. What's the point??

That looks very much like a Bob Petersen special, who is around the Bedford/ Northampton area. His cars are based on Mk6 chassis, it certainly has a later steering wheel . The 8 cylinder engine is a generator/ crane/ military application unit, readily available for around 5k . Still looks great though

I think the fishtail exhaust was brought in to reduce the noise as they were racing around Brooklands. It reduced the power a bit but was quieter. I'd take it off wink

Of course it is...

I guess some poeple would consider it even more classic if it still looked like this wink
