1971 Ford Capri RS2600 Group 2 Chassis No. GAECKU19998
Ford Cologne factory built Group 2 race car • 1971 winner of the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps • Fully prepared for the most prestigious events, both on road or track
Especially for Touring car racing, the RS 2600 model was launched as a homologation special. With the help of Peter Ashcroft, the 2.6 litre V6 was modified to displace just under 3.0 litres. Fitted with the Weslake heads and Kugelfischer Fuel Injection the OHV V6 engine produced well over 290 bhp. Compared to its nearest and usually more powerful rivals, the Capri RS was as light as the proverbial feather, which gave it an edge over its competition.
Featured here is one of the very few factory built Cologne Capris, raced with great success in the European Touring Car Championship from 1971 onwards. The 2600RS was mainly raced by the Spanish ex-Formula 1 driver and Ford Works pilot Alex Soler-Roig. The Spaniard often teamed up with Dieter Glemser for the long distance endurance races, this combination proved to be extremely successful and culminated in the overall win of the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps in 1971.
At this early stage of the season the car was still painted in its grey-blue livery, this has been charged for marketing reasons shortly after. We are currently investigating in cooperation with Ford Cologne further race results of GAECKU19998, it is very likely that this car was also entered by Ford Cologne in 1972 at the Nürburgring with Glemser/Mass and at Le Mans with Soler-Roig/Glemser, now in its current blue/white Ford livery.
After its active racing career, the car was purchased from the factory by Soler-Roig, who used the car for promotional reasons in a Ford dealership in Spain. We have been told that the car remained there in very original condition for more than twenty years, before it was purchased by Yvan Mahe, who extensively restored the car in 2003. Mahe confirmed in a letter that he discovered the Capri in very good and original overall condition, although the car was tired after having been stored idle for decades. Today the car is presented in very fine condition, both cosmetically and mechanically. The correct Weslake engine has been recently overhauled by Mader in Switzerland. All other important factory details as the very special electrical system (see dashboard), the rear oil tank as well as the factory body strengthening are on the car.
After the full restoration the car has been driven at Le Mans Classic, at the Tour Auto and the Tour Espana. At these very prestigious events the Capri well proved its overall performance and can be seen as a future entry ticket for high class race meetings as Le Mans Classic, the Masters Series, the Tour Auto and various national championships.

It's not registered on the database as scrapped no. I would guess that it's probably residing in a shed somewhere.
I think that it would be worth contacting http://www.capri2register.co.uk/ to see if they can help further.
