Need a really good fully waterproof car cover, breathable, that will be on & off the car regularly that won't tear, or damage the paintwork? Dont mind the cost, got one from my local motorstore for £50 & the fit & quality is awful! Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Grab a copy of Classic and Sportscar or Octane for a good list.

I have 3 of these on my classics: http://www.airflow-uk.com/shop_car-covers_waterpro... they are really good, fit very well and are totally waterproof. Just been down to the shops in my old 911 and it takes just a few seconds to whip off, then put back again. Airflow are really helpful and will get one in the post to you overnight. My oldest one is on my Alfa Spider and it is still keeping the car dry and dirt free after two years. They will be double the cost of the one you have, but are really well made.......

Cheers, Dan

went through this in great detail for my new project. The end result was advice from those in the know not to buy one at all since dirt gets into the inner fabric (unless you wash and dry your car each time before you put the cover on of course) and scratches the car when you put it on and pull it off. Several people kindly sent me photos of the marks - a bit like a lousy car wash. I've in the end decidied it isn't a good idea. My main need was for transportation on the trailer but a bit of dirt can be washed off; scratches can't.

100% agree. I've owned 3 of their covers now, and will buy another one I'm sure.

Lowdrag above mentions a very important point with covers though; and that's the the car must be perfectly clean (i.e. just washed and dried) before you put it on. Otherwise you will scratch dirt across the car and put in scratches.

For me this wasn't a problem - the covers have been for my weekend cars, so if I put the car away dirty I would simply not put the cover on and wait until I washed it to wrap it up maybe a few days later.

So if you intend to use it like that, then I recommend Classic Additions 100% - superb company (and I stress I have no link to them at all!), but if you will not really be able to clean the car before covering it then I'd agree with Lowdrag above that you will do more harm than good.

Can't remember who makes them but the outdoor one I bought from Rimmer Bros. (NOT own brand) was ste - one summer of UK sun make it brittle and it just ripped apart with the first strong Autumn breeze.
