Barn stored classic and lost V5..
Discussion
Hiya,
Just gotten stuck in with my new project, a 1975 BMW 2002. Its been stuck in a dry barn for over 15 years and is in remarkably good shape considering. The problem is the old boy I bought it off (typical farm, cars in all corners and historic (app.K FIA) race cars standing around slowly perishing.. sad that, but thats another story).. anyway I digress.. back to the problem. He cant find the V5 in his piles of dusty paperwork and as such I have the car, and a receipt for buying it etc. He promised me he would search for it over the weekend, but just in case its gone I may need a new one re-issued.
What do I need to convince the DVLA to issue me, the new owner, a new V5? I have seen the web site, downloaded the paperwork and written a cheque for 25 quid... do they also need a copy of the receipt as proof?
Or should I ask him to get one?.. which wont happen as he slightly distracted by other things and would ergo take a while I think.

You need to fill out a V62 form from the DVLA and send off along with some dosh. Takes a good few weeks to come back providing nothing goes wayward.

Well..Mk2 Jag, Hillman Imp, Couple of MGB roadsters, SWB 1966 911 and a 600bhp Camaro, amongst other things in race spec , and a few 2002 shells and some other alfa (giulias?) shells rusting away in a dry barn. oh yea.. and an NSU prinz
Its what I love about the UK.. hidden away by these eccentric types on run down farms you can find all sorts of classics
