I will be very close to Angouleme during the 70th anniversary event.
Is this like me naively saying - I will be very close the Chichester during the Goodwood Revival and (wrongly) presuming I can just pop along on the day and get good access?

I haven't been for about 17 years but have made the break with Chichester and will be taking the new C type down for a run. Obviously things will have changed but I am looking forward to it.

Yeah it's chaeaper - but then when was the last time you saw the race stop at Goodwood so that the driver could reverse and then go forward to get round a bend? Don't kid yourself this is better - just different. I remember this Ferrari being polished with a Nanette brush as he waited on the grid and him being lapped by the whole field "because he had drum not disc brakes". His driving was about the equivalent of Sally Mason-Styron at Goodwood - execrable. No, treat it as a fun weekend , not serious racing.

went 2 years ago, great experience, as other contributors have advised not comparable to goodwood a different event. Very uncommercial, little in the way of obvious corperate influence, You can buy tee shirts, posters and hats from what appear to be official organisers only, at fair prices. You sit on the ramparts in typical french style to view the racing which is competitive. Access to the pits loosly describes the parc ferme was informal and very accessible. Seating in stands is informal, fight for a view the french are quite vociferous if you stand in their sight lines. Thoroughly enjoyable however. Would definatly go again.

Fantastic motorsporting weekend that got me and a friend back racing after 20 years of abstinence. Walking up the hill in the morning we were astonished to be passed by a dozen or so formulae ford french equivalent single seaters racing up the main drag to the pits. There are demonstration races (insurance purposes) and proper door handle shaving races both taken at full tilt. A certain Lotus 7 v Barquette duel was particularly fierce with no prisoners on either side. The locals are very enthusiastic and if I ever get a HTP for my escort I will make that trek one day.

This is the 70th anniversary and the rally entries closed several months back. I gave my entry to friends since I am now invited to Goodwood for the Revival for Sir Stirling's 80th and the car (frankly not me) is invited for him to drive. I digress. The rally route will not be known until 7.30am Saturday morning. Sorry.

Thanks lowdrag. Our flight doesnt get in to 1pm Saturday at Limoges and was thinking it may me easier to watch it on route than go direct to Angouleme, but looks like may be difficult.
