All, the classic car world is not a scene I am familiar with, so am looking for a little advice from the knowledge people on here.

My father-in-law's elderly brother has unfortunately succumbed to alzheimer's and as such father-in-law appears to have been tasked with looking after some of his affairs.

To cut a long, boring story very short, could anybody recommend the best place to advertise his 1938 MG TA (apparently the car is in nice working order rather than a basket case). Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Richard

Just wanted to add, that this is in no way meant to sound like a thinly veiled advertisement. I just don't know where this sort of car is best advertised. Thanks.

I would think about putting an ad in www.carandclassic.co.uk

I think this is a little more upmarket than Car & Classic. There is a good MG section in Classic & Sportscar - even the MG club have their own ads section. A nice original car like that, as long as it is in good order but just patinated, will sell easily. The TA is much sought after and not that many are still around. The alternative would be H & H auction house; I recommend them because their commission rate is much less than the other houses and they produce good results.

I feel this car should be should through a specialist market. MG Live at Silverstone on 10-12th July has a dedicated Auction by Coys. You are more likely to get a better price in a marque specific sale rather than a general sale IMHO. Website is www.mglive.com for more details.
Good luck with the sale.

There's always the option of selling at auction, H&H have one every couple of months in Buxton. relativley hassle free way of selling a classic on. other solution would be to put it on sale or return with a vintage / classic MG specialist

Owners club or specific auction I'd have said. The owners club will be able to give you an idea of value too. Big article on MGs in this month's Classic and Sports Car mag too.

I took both for years and cancelled Car & Classic. The adverts are more to the point at C & SC in my opinion. Yes, they advertise expensive cars everywhere based on their (enormous) commission potential, but the MGOC advertise only in C & SC, not the other, which is why I mentioned it. However, I think that, with the state of the car not verified, an auction would probabl;y give a fair price, especially as the OP, from the sound of it, doesn't really know the classic car movement.

Fair enough...valid point.

Thanks all for your input, much appreciated. I've passed it on to father-in-law, so he can plan the next move.

Richard.

I would recommend the MGCC for a prewar.

Good luck with the sale
