Thought id throw up a few pic's of my corolla's resto.Have it for about 7 years but done nothing with it but really got into the mood the past month or two.I was going to get a friend to finish it but decided Id do it myself.Gonna keep it as original as possible.Need a few parts too so if anyone has some let me know.

Pick any early and now rarely seen car and there will be fans of them and luckily, people prepared to save them. There is a huge following for early Japanese motors and some which were worth next to nothing back in the 80's/90's can now command thousands.I love em' biggrin

Good luck with the project, I owned one of these as my very first car.It was lovely and being rustproofed from new, was in superb condition. It took some serious abuse though and was sold and shipped abroad in the end.I think another guy on here has one, too and has posted about it, at least I think it was on here, as I seem to remember replying to his thread. Will have a hunt..

My father sold hundred's of them when they were out new and he has a sort of an affection for them. There's a huge following for these and other classic toyota's in Ireland and I think there's only about 25 left on the road. There's something retro and cool about them in my opinion.

Spot on biggrin
As far as I know thousands of them were shipped to Russia and other Eastern European countries. That's probably one of the reason's why there so rare around here now and thanks for the good luck wishes biggrin

Interesting project.
A couple of years or so ago, in amongst the Ferrari's we normally do, you would have found this having a bare metal repaintthumbup...........................

I have a strange affection for these big old Japanese saloons. I've had my eye on various ones on Ebay but haven't dared click buy yet!

In general, are parts a problem? I presume trim could be pretty hard to source, but I guess service bits are all available?

We got some parts from the local Toyota dealership but they were only stuff that were left behind in storage rooms.Took me a full year to get tail lights for it.There seems to be a lot of aftermarket parts available but very few Toyota ones.Luckily the trim in our one is perfect! But I would say its very difficult to get trim parts.Seems to be a good bit of service part lurking around the place though.

Fair enough! I suppose it's very subjective thing. I'm sure it'll be a great project!

My mates Dad had one of these, first Auto I ever drove. He asked if I wanted to take it to the garage and fill her up when (had just passed my test) I jumped at the chance, got to the end of the road and slammed my foot onto the brake pedal assuming it was the clutch and headbutted the windscreen laugh

I love the way decent examples of such cars still crop up from time to time. Now and again you hear of someone grabbing a bargain when a little old lady sells her 1 owner from new 20k mile car for next to nothing, as she has no idea of the fan base for such things.I still remember being able to pick up a RWD corolla fastback/coupe for a few hundred quid, now you can pay 10 grand for a minter!

A few little gems on the bay at the moment..
