registering a classic race car.........for the road
Discussion
Hi, i need some advice please.
I have been offered to buy a classic race car from a friend. It is a 60s GT car that was successful in club racing in period. It is soon to be rebuilt using its original components, but i want to register this car for the road.
It has never been road reg, and it has never had a number plate assigned.
I think i can apply to reg the car using a V55/5 form then go to my local dvla office. To prove the car is period i have a letter from the original manufacturer. (it is a low volume car)
what are the chances that i can get the car registered for the road? i dont want it on a 'Q'.
thanks....

Could be tricky unless you can provide evidence that enough of its components are original, and were new when first used, to score an age-related plate under the DVLA's points procedures.
I'd also guess that, even if you can prove enough to get an age-related plate, they'll demand that it goes through an IVA test (which could again prove difficult and force a lot of non-original modifications to meet current regs).
Try getting the mods to move this to the Kit Cars forum, where you'll get a lot more knowledgeable response... I'm a bit out of touch with current testing and registration procedures.
