Hi all, I thought i would share my new purchase here in the classic section.
I've just taken delivery of a pretty rare 1968 Jaguar 420G.
Purchased via Barons auction (24th March) the car has only had one owner from new and has been in daily use right up until his passing in January this year.
Whilst needing a bit of TLC and a rear brake overhaul for mot the car is structurally sound, the interior is all complete and totally original but again needs TLC and a good clean. It fills the garage at 17ft long and 6ft 5in wide!
Having owned a few Jags i'm delighted to get my hands on such a rare model with only one owner, this as we say, is a keeper!

Thanks Forthright, I believe its the only Jaguar model ever offered as a Duo Tone colour scheme from the factory. I agree it suits it well! Thanks for the comments, once the works done for the mot it will certainly be in regular use again.
Apart from quite a few others including the Mk VIII and IX that is of course. Then there were the Daimlers too. Still, a lovely find and good to hear it isn't rotten as a pear underneath. Lovely to drive and to waft through France in. We did it some years back using a Mk X and an S type.lowdrag said:

Hi Davy, congrats on your new toy, the Mk 10/420G are representative of those halcyon days when Jaguar led the world.
As a sixteen year old (in '71) I briefly worked for a City of London lawyer, his magnificent three year old Westminster Blue 420G would rocket us along London Wall, three up and a boot FULL of luggage, when he kicked down the old B/W Model 8 the XK roared, six years later I was driving my very own 420 'S' (garage was too small for a 'G'.)
As my profile shows, one of these is on my shopping list for the future, I liked the XJs but I prefer the Mk 10/420G interior AND the body shape with all that tumblehome on the doors, and by crikey when you close them you really feel your shutting off the outside world!
I imagine a poorly maintained car could be a moneypit, but the body was of massive construction and good ones are out there, the XK of course just needs to be trusted to the right people.
A wonderful long journey express with that suspension, the seven gallon tanks empty quickly but WHAT A CAR, enjoy and keep us updated please!

Well done Davy, underated cars alround. Firm it up with some decent dampers front and rear if you suffer from sea sickness. Riding in the back is a bit like crossing the Atlantic in a rowing boat.Real heart( and stomach) in the mouth stuff! The red Mk10 at Goodwood enclosure is my customers car. 3.8 with just 29k miles covered and one owner.I have a 420G in the shop at present being fitted with a 4 speed ZF autobox. Great conversion.
Easy upgrades should include better brakes as per the DS420 uprights ,4 pots work so much better than the originals which were not good.
