Looked fantastic but devoid of any identifying marks so thought I'd rely on the PH knowledge to put me right!

Spotted outside the Phoenix (famous for its new years classic's meet), just up the road from us.

lovely. Did you get a shot from the front? Usually the front grill will help identification with anything pre-war.

Tim,

At the back of my memory I'm sure I've seen that car before but I can't think where or when.

It's the tail that makes me think it's a special of some sort. To big to be an Austin 7, to small to be a Bentley, so maybe a Alvis or something along those lines?

Whatever, it is a very nice looking car!

The instruments have a bit of a french look about them, wonder if it's a Samson?

I know what you mean. I thought Amilcar, but its very difficult without a reg number/front radiator grill

It's a special of some sort, posting it on the VSCC forum would get the answer, (and owner and full history) very quickly.

Looks very Sunbeam.

It could be the 1922 Strasbourg GP Sunbeam on the cover of the Automobile this month?

It is also at the Goodwood Auction....

Very similar but the Strasbourg cars had a much more rounded radiator grille from what I can see in the photo below, tail section is almost identical though.

I'm wrong.

Agree with the Sunbeam bit. (Below has different tail).

I'm about to put a picture up of what looks like this car, (or the car on the Automobile cover), from Brooklands in 1926, no spare wheel hole though and the exhaust is a bit more "elegant".

I wonder if its a special then 'in the style of' - the brakes on the subject car are much larger than those fitted to the strasbourg cars.

It is now up on the Bonhams' site, it appears it is not the one on the cover of Automobile, but another one, http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/pu... The Automobile article says that 4 1922 cars, and 3 1924 cars survive.
