Brooklands style buildings..

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone here can help me.. After a recent trip to the Brooklands Museum, I was inspired to paint my garage black, is there a wood preserver I can use or a cocktail of old engine oil and like paraffin... needless to say, don't smoke whilst applying the mix...

thank Matt

In the old days this used to be creosote. That is now dangerous and illegal, but I guess you can get fake creosote. Of course the Campbell Service station is powder blue, but he did like blue cars (and sold Bugatti's - in blue?)

I've used black tar varnish to paint wooden stable blocks black. IIRC Creosote is more of a brown. This might just be what you are after.

Yeah, but fresh creosote smelled divine

I once made a 5 barred gate, very pleased with it and decided to creosote it using an airless spray, worked fine but killed everything growing down wind. More than wrote off all the brownie points I'd gained with the gate.
