Motoring heaven on telly tonight

Good evening's viewing, wasn't it?
BBC4 is also worth watching this evening (Thursday) from 8.30 with Richard Wilson motoring in his Morris Traveller in Yorkshire and Penelope Keith in a programme about an early woman motorist (I forget who but from 1905). That's followed by a motoring quiz - I think.

Her name is Dorothy Levitt and she wrote a book called 'The Woman and the Motor Car' which explained how women in the early 1900's should drive and maintain their own cars.
One of the most impressive sections is where she recommends that every woman should carry a 'small revolver' under the car seat along with a spare pair of gloves and a cushion for your dog to sit on.
It is fascinating reading and copies can still be found at autojumbles and at some of the motoring booksellers.
Anyone who subscribes to 'Automobile' will find an article on the last page of this month's magazine all about her.
