250GTO Replica - Engine
Discussion
This has also been posted in Jap Chat, but i'm going to try my luck in here too!
I'm really hoping someone can help. I'm looking for a 1983ish 280ZX P90 nissan/datsun engine, with an F45 bottom end (flat top pistons). The one we have has dropped a valve and for the money it costs to rectify, we might aswell source a 2.8 engine (current is 2.6). We had a race spec one all lined up but has been sold from beneath our nose GRRRRR
Any info on where to find one would be gratefully received.

Cheers! Already got in touch with this guy. OK sorry, misunderstood your use of the termreplica. Replica suggests that every component has been constructed in the exact style of the original. There are some very good replicas of cars like D-Type Jaguars and Aston Martin DBR1/2 racers where the builders have executed every last detail to the best of their ability in order to replicate the original. We are of course talking about cars where the originals are valued in terms of millions so building a replica even if it costs a few hundred thousand pounds is worthwhile. I wondered if you were doing something similar with a Ferrari 250GTO because it could be an interesting project.

A number of people have done the same but it is always such a pity as they chop up a perfectly beautiful (and rare) 250 to do it....George 500 said:

Not that long ago, a tired 250 GTE would be 30K.
50K on the conversion makes a car with a market value of 200K.

Well, this is a replica and a ferrari engine would cost far far more than the entire car. 250 GTO replicas were/are based on the datsun and so a 280 zx will drop straight in.
I remember these , I looked at a finished car at the Bournemouth BIC back in the mid 80s the car looked fantastic the kit was around 2,400 with a 260 z super samurai engine conversion the completed car was around 15k.I heard that ferrari took out a lawsuit and the firm went bust ,
how about a v8 conversion ??
ford 302
