Today I followed, of all things, a Reliant Kitten (the 4 wheel plastic pig) - ironically with a "big bore" exhaust.

A friend had one years make - it caught fire - evidently a common event...

An ill-starred spin-off of a wierd consequence of bizarre car taxes.

Lucky we won't ever have those again...

One of my future projects is to put a Rover V8 in a Kitten.

I believe it's already been done, several times.

There was a rally prepared Kitten, that used to do various rounds in the Scottish Rally series back in the 80's. It was blue, with a 1275 midget engine it, I think !! and was just as fast as the Escorts and Sunbeams in 1300cc class.

I know of a blue one that competed in the Monte Carlo Rally in the early 80's and did surprisingly well - class win from memory??

Didn't have a 1275 in it then, but it was moved on around 1983 when the owner moved on to Astras and then Skodas.

I was regularly terrified by him in all of them!

Think a Kitten won the last Practical Performance Car £999 challange - www.ppcmag.co.uk (but blocked by work firewall so can't check)

There was a Kitten used to run in Special Sports/Saloon events 10 or 15 years ago. Anyone remember it? I will have to delve into my program collection to find it.

Forward motion
Down hill with the wind behind it and a low pollen count.

Interesting - the one I saw in Stafford was Red with a big bore (didn't see the wheels) -if it's the same one he gets about!

The Kitten that raced in Special Saloons was built by Ginger Marshall, he was the first to realise that running a "van" shaped body gave an aerodynamic advantage. He was about 10 years ahead of Volvo and their 850 estates.

There was a Kitten in Car and Car Conversions years ago that was space framed and with a bike engine. I think it was a pre-R1 era engine, maybe a ZZr1100? It looked completely standard from the outside but did 0-60 in something stupid like 4 seconds!

That'd be fun away from the lights!

They're British and cute. Years ahead of the Smart car. At the time they were dear though.

Fibreglass body and separate chassis, sporty little engine....so what's not to like ? smile

Very light, wheel at each corner, easy to slot a very quick engine into............ hmmmmmmmm. smile

I can imagine that you could make a rather formidable track weapon.
