This really is one of yesterdays hero's, not connected to me in any way just looks like an awsome car.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

So if you had one would you sell it now? I would have thought a specialist Auction might do better.

Estimates of Auction end price £18k, £25K

Cheers

Joe

Nice engine.....

Lots of minor niggly things 'incorrect' with it to reach the upper echelons of RS1600 prices, probably why it's on the bay of evil instead of thru the 'known circles' for the sale of these.

In 1992 I bought a 1990 mdl RS Turbo Escort (G500 NSO) from Mike Youngs RS Dealer in Ilford and he had a 1977 RS 1800 in there minus Engine for 5 grand, I bet that would be worth a few bob now days, does anyone know what come of Mike Youngs in the post Cosworth era?

£22,695 the Auction finished at.

So £18 ~ 25k not a bad estimate in this economic climate, I should apply for a job at Bonhams!!

After the RS200 I can't think of any other UK ford that would fetch that much?
I am not including the GT40 either as it was a bit extra special.

I can remember when a mate paid £1800 for his and we all thought he was crazy......because of the cost of BDA engine rebuilds....!

That was back in 1983 though.....redface

At least now the total value of the car is twice the cost of the engine, as opposed to less than half the cost of the engine as it was back in 1983...!!

What he says....UK Ford.
i.e vehicles sold new in the UK by FoMoCo.

A long with the aforementioned RS200, and Escort RS1600, you would have to include the Lotus-Cortina, Escort Twin Cam, Escort RS1800 and possibly mint Sierra RS500's in the same £20k+ price bracket.

United Kingdom Ford?

Or

A rhd Ford that was aimed at British/UK market, that people in the UK could organise a purchase from a local Ford/RS dealer etc, so not vintage mustangs that go for the price of a modest family home at Barratt Jackson auctions in the US (United States) etc.

That's why I asked as I thought somehow your criteria was excluding RS500's.

RS500's change hand for in excess of 25k.
Some for a hell of a lot more. wink

This must have been a real bargain then

Whilst I think the RS500 Cossie is a nice motor, I would still swap it for a decent RS1600 or RS1800

But this is the yesterdays heroes forum so I am biased.

I would think the Lotus MK1 Cortina is a contender for 20k plus but is it a Ford or a Lotus?

I actually owned an Escort Twincam, bought it for £800 in the the early 80's sold it for £1600 two weeks later, I thought I had a result. Wish I had it now.

Lotus-Cortina's are well in excess of 20k wink

Although, final assembly was done at the Lotus factory in Chestnut, the cars were sold through the Ford dealer network, and were of course totally financed by FoMoCo, so definately a Ford.

I bought my Escort Twin Cam around 1984 for a £400 as it needed a new cyl head, and reluctantly had to sell it a few years later, albeit for £1600.....but I so wish I hadn't had to do that as I probably would still have it today weeping

Bought my 1973 RS 1600 in 1977 just before my 21st birthday. Meeting with my car friendly bank manager, who knew it had 4 valves per cylinder, when you had to prove you had a substantial deposit during Jim Callaghan's desperate premiership. I got a loan for the full purchase price of £1100 and it turned out to be the most memorable and wonderful car I have ever owned. Tried to trace it and buy it back a few years ago after buying another mk1 and a Lotus 7 BDA. They somehow don't compare.

It remains in my memory like the beautiful girlfriend I never quite had.

The 1st one looks very cheap to me although I wouldn't pay you in washers for the race prepped one.
There is also this one: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/414498.htm which is more of an "average" price for a good, original 500.

AHHH....the rs 1600....makes me weep when I remember mine....One of the best motors I've ever had the pleasure of. It just made you feel great. To think that it would now sell for £23000 is scary.
