As is pointed out in one of the results, 100 years ago the USA's best selling car got 17mpg. Now it gets 16mpg. Now that's progress!

I had wondered about the mpg on the 'T' thinking about the 3000cc + sidevalve engine! At the current cost of petrol its just about acceptable money wise, then when the petrol price go'es back up, Mmmmmmm.
Thinks I shall not be tempted by the lovely van just come onto market.

It might be quite thirsty but how many miles would you do in it? Also, think of it in terms of how much petrol would ot cost over a year to have? Not a lot in the grand scheme of things.

I think Neil Tuckett had a book on T's published recently? Think I read about it in The Automobile.

Yes Neil Tuckett has just published his book and I look at his website on a regular basis. He always has interesting 'T's of all flavours. I drive about 2000 miles year in my vintage and they return about 30mpg, so I guess your right, its worth thinking about as it looks an nice van, albiet most likely needs a bit of work to get it back on road.

I quite fancy VSCC trials and test and a T would be a cheap way of doing it. I have to face it, there is no other motor sport I could afford!

I've only ever seen one Model T on a trial, a speedster. You'd be better off with a Model A, IMO.

Thanks Tali1, now THAT is an proper answer. Seriously I am amazed that Autocar would have printed that info as I thought they only did 'moderns'.

Every xmas they have an "odd /fun" road test -these have included all types of weird and wonderful machines like land speed record cars, hot air balloons and even the Channel Tunnel boring machine smile
