I seem to spend my life tryingto find information about my old cars. Now I have decided that I would like to track down the series one 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe E Type I sold a a restoration project in about 1980. I seem to recall that a new RS2000 Custom beckoned and like the prat I am I sold the E type to raise some money. Well as I am desperately after the same car to restore I just thought it would be fun to try and track the old car down. All I recall is that it is registered in North Wales , Bangor to be precise. In 1963 as I recall. The first 3 letters were PEY the next 3 numbers I cannot recall and I seem to have lost my photos of the car. It was dark red when I owned it and had the front subframe dismantled from the tub. It should have been gunmetal with beige/biscuit trim. Someone must know if it? I have tried the clubs and XKE Data but as I do not have the chassis number I am stumped. Anyone know it?

I think to get anywhere you're gonna have to find the Reg number at the very least. And then you can enquire to see if it still exists.

Have you asked over on Etype uk's forum. Great bunch of enthusiats there though it's quiet over the christmas period.

Try contacting the JDC to see if they have it on their register. You need to write to Petronel Payne at the jDC. You'll find it on the internet. They have about 5,000 E types registered there.

If you can get anywhere near the number, try entering a few likely ones on the TfL Congestion Charge website. It comes back instantly with the car the plate is on.

Just go through the rigmarole as if you are buying a day's charge and bail out before paying.

Crude but effective.

some good ideas here thanks guys. I have tried Petronel but she does not have a note of the rest of the reg, in other words cannot search on just PEY... Anyway, it must be out there somewhere. I have asked my father to look for the photos I took of the E when I had it and lived at home. I guess if I could fid the registration records from Bangor North Wales I could look through until I found the registration. Thats assuming that it was still on the original plate. My own take on this is that it is probably residing somewhere still unrestored and waiting for me to rescue it for a second time.

No, no no! Anything but the E-Type Forum on the Jag Lovers Forum. Its run, managed & dictated by about 6 or 7 Americans who primarily like to use it as a personnel message board. And God help you if you have the cheek to disagree with them.

Well the few times I've strayed in to the E-Type forum they've been most helpful, I'm normally to be found in the XK part, but when I was looking at an E and when odd bits of kit from POs turned out to be from Es the forum was most useful.

Too right. I've tried my best with them, but they beat me. I think my frustration got the better of me and it showed in the tone of my posts. There's one particular bloke who thinks he knows everything and who's managed to convice the rest of them that he actually does(conveniently ignoring the fact he's never actually rebuilt an E-Type). Ah well, "In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king". Screw 'em. IMHO the place for an E-Type is in England anyway ;-)

Still go on there nearly everyday to have a laugh at them though.

Cheers.
