There's a story about a 1928 Rolls Royce at a concours with the owner standing proudly by it. The judges look the car over, are impressed and ask the owner if they can hear it running.

When the owner just smiles, the judges assume he didn't hear them and ask again.

"Can we hear it running, please?"

"It is running."

Many years ago a specialist I worked for, had the car in which the Aga Khan had wished Kathrine Hepburn away to the south of france to marry her.
We also had a 20 hp in that had only 3 owners from new ( 1929). The previous owner was a retired Army Officer he had stored the car during the war but paid for the car to be re- commissioned and shipped over to Germany during the Berlin airlift ,to use as his everyday transport. It had not been used since and was a remarkable timewarp piece. It was in for us to re wire and re commission again( some 40 odd years later). You could switch it on and flick the advance / retard lever and the car would start. The wiring was housed in a conduit along the chassis.4 wheel brakes and mechanical servo, a design Rolls knicked from Hispano Suiza. The 20hp was the first Rolls with this servo I believe.

Wonderful cars, I have been harbouring an desire to own an very early 20hp one day. Unfortunately I would ask how much is the likely running cost to be, so I cannot afford one just yetgrumpy

We had a stunning 1928 Rolls Royce as our wedding car.
I must try and dig out some pictures.
When we went to view the car at the home of the guy who ran the wedding hire business he had shelves full of trophies the car had won in concourses.
