Has anyone got a manual that I could copy, (or send me in the right direction), for a 1971 Merc 280 SE 3.5 Convertible?

Sadly not my car but someone I know, oddly we couldn't get the front seats to flip forwards so that people could get in the back. They had to climb in like Starsky and Hutch!

Hi, can't help with the manual unfortunately. If it's anything like my 250CE, there will be a button on each B pillar to release the back rest. If that doesn't work I suspect that someone has done a bit of a botch job to get it thru the MOT. The locking mechanism works by vacuum from the inlet manifold. Chances are the vacuum tube to the seat is leaking or the rubber diaphragm in the mechanism is leaking.

Thanks, I will pass the info on. Had a quick trawl around and can't find a manual yet, I have emailed MB themselves but I guess I won't hear anything for a while.

Mercedes efficiency!

Got an email back (from Holland), that said speak to local dealer, spoke to MB at Brooklands, they spoke to someone in Germany and it has been ordered. Should be here in a few weeks. Cost approx. £10.

Not bad for a rare car that is pushing 40 years old.

Manuals for my 50 year old XK150 are still in print.
Owners must be very careless at loosing them.
