I used to go along to the annual 8 clubs meeting in the late 60`s and through the 70`s with my dad. I remember with fondness having to wait on the outside of the track for the practice session to finish before we could cross to the paddock. A quick survey round would reveal a wide diversity of machinery from an old ex police MG Magnette (complete with ringing bell used round Woocote during the race)to McClaren M1`s that used to whistle on the run into Woodcote. We used to love watching from the Woodcote bank......great view, so close to the action. I was luckey enough to be able to compete in 3 years of 8 club events and actually won one of the handicap races. Memorable moments include Jim Tiller spinning his awsome Allard down the start finish straight, spending most of it backwards on the grass without hitting anything!
Maybe it`s me but motorsport seems to have lost that fun element nowadays, probably due to the cost of it all......Martin
