Stunning preperation.........
I'm curious to know what regs the historics run in though, as I was always under the impression that cars had to be pretty close to their original as homologated form......and that car is about as far away from any form of homologated RS2000 as it can be.....

No, you are correct.I'm curious to know what regs the historics run in though, as I was always under the impression that cars had to be pretty close to their original as homologated form......and that car is about as far away from any form of homologated RS2000 as it can be.....
The car does run within the regs, hence it has slipper springs rather than turreted, and a Pinto as an alternative to the only other realistic option, the BDA (BDG). It also has to run with the Rocket box rather than a 5-speeder.
When Kevin bought the shell it had been turreted and 5 linked. The 5 link is legal, but the links were longer than were used pre-'75 or whatever it is so he had to cut the boxes out and weld in shorter ones. He even had to fill some vent holes that his bonnet came with...
I can only assume from what you say that some cars must have been built to this spec...

So, what your saying is that the regs allow you to substitute engine types....?
Basically you can run what is effectively a 'works' style RS1600 but with a Pinto and call it an RS2000, when pre-75 RS2000's were only homologated in Group 1.....???
It's been some years since I was involved, so I assume the regs have been changed quite a bit as I'm sure you weren't allowed to do that in the early days of Historic Rallying...or am I just getting far too old and forgetful....
Oh, and that number plate looks very familiar..?

I have no idea about the engine situation except that other cars in the Historic Championship use BDAs, but the C3 Class use Pintos.
The car is built to FIA Homoligation Form number 5566 (apparently....)
Here are some pics from the Robin Hood Historic Rally:

OK, ta, just had a ferret around for the regs. It does appear to be a lot more relaxed from what I remember about the early days of Historic Rallying....or as I said, my memory has faded over the past 15+ years.....The car is built to FIA Homoligation Form number 5566 (apparently....)
Have to say, I personally don't agree with it, but that's just a personal opinion.
They were homologated with steel wheels, back in the seventies,a neighbour of mine was doing the Tour of Britain in an RS 2000, it had alloys and he had to borrow the steel wheels of my Mexico for the event.

Ol' girl has always been and always will be on steals :-)... Those steals are rarer than alloys now I'd say.
Chassis is from a '59 Karmann Ghia under going full ground up nut and bolt resto. Soon to be back on the road all chrome 'n black.

I'm not keen on the og 4 spoke alloys. Minilites are sweet but stealies are the real deal
Oh if anyone's interested here a link to the Ghia resto http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=1756...
