Which Classic Car - upto £10k
Discussion
Right gents,
I've posted this over in General, but thought I might get more "specialist" ideas here...
Hypethetical mid-credit crunch splurge – if you had £10k to spend on an interesting classic, what would you buy - I’m looking for some suggestions.
I already have a Jensen Interceptor, a Jensen CV8 - both pretty much concours quality examples and a Rover P5B saloon which I use most days.
Criteria:
Must be pre-‘73
RHD
Big enough inside for my “ample” 6ft 4 frame
Be interesting
Must be able to get a really nice original or restored example for £10k or thereabouts.
My original idea would be an early 911 to fill the obvious sports-car gap. But they are 20k+ for a nice example...
Suggestions?
Cheers,
Steve

a shabby 541-r of course. on wires with peely paint. either that or a alvis te
Don't think you'll get much of an Alvis for under £10k Agree with the TR idea, TR4a would be my pick but depends on one's taste for older or more modern body shape I suppose.
This one's £10k
Or whay about a Jensen Healey? This one's £3,500

I was going to say Citroen CX GTI, but the CX was only launched in 74'. Even the very best top spec cars with good colour/trim combo can be found easily under 10k. They are only going to go up in value.
Alfa GTV keeps cropping up, good choice. Or, how about...

May not be the right age or spec, but food for thought nonetheless:

You might get a newer 911 for that sort of money at the moment.
The whole 6'4" thing though I doubt would work.
I'm 6'2", and I could really do with being an inch shorter in mine. My head is not pressed against the roof, but I couldn't put both hands on top of one another between my head and the roof.

Alfa Romeo Bertone Coupe, Sprint GT, 1750GTV etc, fits the bill perfectly, find a fault if you can
I was going to say it if you hadn't! You'll get immaculate Guilia saloons under that price too, which might offer a bit more room for 6'4. The only caveat I can think of is you might have to fiddle with seat height/wheel reach to get properly comfortable in an Alfa. Or, Merc 280se 3.5.

Seeing as the OP already has 2 x Jensens and a Rover if I were him I'd be looking for a convertible. If you're building a collection the cars needs to complement each other, I would see no point in having three 2+2 coupe's for example i.e. the two Jensens and a P1800. Perhaps sell one of the Jensens and spend £40k instead of £10k? Then have a Jensen Coupe, the Rover Saloon and a really nice soft-top like an XK140?
Triumph Stag.
