99% sure I know the answer, but is it possible to trace/get copies of old MOTs? As in ones from decades ago?

My assumption is that copies, if ever kept, were probably only retained for a brief period and then binned.

I doubt that copies ever existed.

You could get copy made by the garage that did the MOT, presumably they kept a record of the cars they had MOTd that year but after a year there was no point getting a copy as it would have expired, so I guess they chucked the records out after the year end or when the book was full.

Even if someone did keep a record I don't imagine they would have a new-old-stock MOT certificate that they could fill in!

Are you sure you aren't taking concours too seriously ? smile

If MOTs exist, they will be with the car. Ditto tax discs.

Otherwise no. However, you can ask the DVLA for copies of the V5's, showing who owned the car before you. And you can buy "fake" tax discs in the older format.

Seeing that poeple sell remanufactured tax discs for what appears to me to be a lot of money for a bit of worthless paper, should we be starting a business in 'recreation' MOTs smile - would it be illegal to copy expired MOTs confused.

Not sure that there would be a market, but if anyone was determined to have a complete history of their car......
