Hi all,

Its one of my dreams to drive Mini Cooper S (A real Mini!). Does anyone know of any classic car hire that would enable me to do this?

not wanting to sound like a tt, but how hard is it to type 'classic mini hire' into google?

for £300 a day, i'd be hiring something a bit more special than a mini.

No harder then typing "double glazing specialist" into Google. Some of us prefer recommendation rather then playing "guess the cowboy"

Sorry if I sound like a t**t.

fair point, but there are but a handful of classic hire places in the uk which are even handily collected on one web directory. out of those, one has a mk1 cooper. therefore my recommendation is that one.

actually my recommendation is to get friendly with the local mini club. you can hire an e-type for £350 a day and there is no way that a mini is 85% the car that the jag is.

Shirt, don't be an arse.

You could try a dealer or classic restoiration place if you were in any way serious about getting one having driven it, but don't just use them as an excuse to try one and then bugger off.

There are a few classic hire places near you, so try one and if they don't have the car you're after, ask them to recommend someone.

Places like http://www.selfdriveclassics.co.uk/classic-car-por... should be decent enough to point you in the right driection.

The club route isn't too bad an idea either. I've lost count of the people who have driven my E type (it mostly gets lent to friends when they are staying nowadays) and for sure plenty have driven the D type although in this case I always insist on accompanying them since they mostly don't appreciate just how powerful it is. Last year I lent the long nose D to a friend so we could do a rally together, me driving the short nose. There are many of us in each marque club who are happy to share the pleasure and let someone drive our cars although the percentage does seem to be falling sadly.

wasn't meaning to be an arse. i am simply suprised by how the vast majority of PHers don't seem to bother doing a little research before asking something so specific. if it were a more general question or a case of "i want to hire this car and have seen them at company x, y and z. which is most reputable?" then i could understand it.

the club option might be the best way. i have even blagged a few day's flying this way for nothing more than the price of a full english breakfast smile

When my mini is back on the road (hopefully in time for summer) drop me a line, and have a drive in that. wink

It's a stripped out 1310cc Downton powered one, half roll cage, solid mounted subframes, uprated suspension & brakes etc.

Last time it was on the rolling road it was 90bhp at the wheels...

If you want to hire almost any classic car then they can be found, not just by typing 'classic car hire' or ' classic mini hire' into Google but by going to www.classiccarhireworld.com which lists most of the classic and sports car hire companies around the world.

Has anyone ever joined up to a relevant car site and hired one off an owner on there?

It's just I really want a DeLorean to drive me to my wedding this year, and buggered if I can find one!

(and yes, a proper one. Not one done up like in that film.)

There are no self drive Deloreans for hire anywhere in the country. You can hire one and be driven to your wedding though, just not drive yourself.

Have a look at www.delorean-hire.co.uk/html/deloreans.html
