Rust proofing for winter
Discussion
I've just collected a very nice mk3 Golf vr6 for winter use. The body is excellent, with just a little corrosion under the paint on a rear wheel arch.
Is it worth getting the car wax-oiled to protect it from the winter salt, or was VW's 1997 factory efforts good enough?
If so, are there any specialists in the Home counties/Thames Valley? I don't have the time or self-loathing to spend a day under the car doing it myself, but it barely seems worth spending the ~£500 some well-known firms are asking.

I would personally add a couple of layers of decent quality Collinite wax to the paintwork and then as often as possible hose down the underside of the car. Waxoil has its benefits but unless the wheel arches are in excellent condition your best efforts will be wasted. Keep the underside clean and get the rust sorted. Don't jetwash just use an open hose to rinse away the salt, if the winter gets bad.
