Future 'budget' Classics...List 'em!
Discussion
Hi All,
I've been thinking that the next 12 months might be a good time to pick up some interesting vehicles as a medium term (3-4 years)investment. I have a few hunches as to what might head North....
BMW 325i sport (E30)
BMW Z1
Porsche 964
Fiat Barchetta
Of course I could be talking crap re. the above!
Ant other suggestions?

Depends what you mean by 'budget', but i'll list a few anyway...
- BMW M3 CSL (A LOT cheaper than they should be for such a car)
- Ford Focus RS (the first one. It cost Ford £5,000 more to make then they sold it for)
- Alfa GTV
- Renault Clio V6
- Renault Clio Trophy
- Lotus Elise S1 (The original and some say, best)
- MG ZT 260.
- Mazda RX-7.

I agree with most of those, the RX-7 especially has got to be one of the most stunning designs of modern times. It's got cult classic written all over it.- BMW M3 CSL (A LOT cheaper than they should be for such a car)

Yes liking the Griffith idea but wonder if the S2000 is just too plentiful to have future potential. (same problem with Boxster) Honda S2000

The S2000 is a fantastic car. Got bags of potential as a future classic I reckon
Edit: Oops, just seen the 3-4 years bit... I reckon stuff like the Fiat Coupe and Barchetta will be considered modern classics. Along with those gorgeous mid-nineties alfa GTV's!

No one seems to have mentioned the Peugeot 406 Pininfarina coupé. For me that is one of the most beautiful designs of the last 15 years and is, IMHO, sure to become a classic. Not at all dear now either. However - three or four years? Not a chance I fear, nor for most classics. If you look back to the late 80s the housing market came off the boil at the end of 1988 and the classic market about two years after with disastrous results for "investors". History repeats itself and we are one year into the current housing slump. If it was me I'd sit on my wallet for now. Just look at Bonham's sale yesterday at Goodwood - many cars didn't sell and for me the star buy was the Mk VIII at £17,000. It was fabulous and I've seen them nearer £30,000 in that condition. I reckon a dealer got a bargain there. Some dealers are really flying a kite - I saw a Sunbeam Tiger with an asking price of £34,000 and only a Mk 1, not Mk 2 either.
