Does anyone know whether a Classic needs 2 mirrors to pass MOT?

The 100e is due for a test next week and its only wing mirror was damaged during winter storage so I have removed it.

It's a 1960 basic model and totally original so I don't want to replace the mirror 'til I can find the right sort. If an exterior mirror is not mandatory I will submit it with the interior one only.

When I bought my XK it didn't have external mirrors, but had just been MOTd. I had mirrors fitted on the window frames so they can easily be removed.

Obligatory mirrors
Obligatory mirrors are
a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the
drivers seat), or

b, an exterior mirror fitted to the
nearside fleft hand side when seated In the drivers seat), or

c. an interior mirror.

Passenger vehicles with no more than 7 passenger seats first used before 1 August 1978 must have any one of the above options.

So you only need the interior mirror smile

my 1965 has never had external mirrors fitted, it passes its mot fine.

it looks great, but if i was driving it everyday i probably would fit them

my new free 1961 has got wing mounted 1960's option ones and will get a new set put on when i do the front end as im keeping it as it was.

personal choice really i guess

Thanks gents.

An interior mirror it is then!

Point is that I don't want to rush into getting a mirror thet's not quite right...... Added to which they can be up to 50 quid a throw on fleabay!

This car is an original 20K miler and the pleasure is in keeping it absolutely straight and standard.

As I understand it the 1960 Popular 'Deluxe'(a run out model for the 100e shell) had a boot lock, heater, passenger sunvisor and offside wing mirror retro fitted by the supplying dealer. Now I can verfy my research before fitting anything!

Get a suction one as a temporary measure for the MOT if you are worried. It's what I have on the Austin, (which would have had none fitted as standard.)

There's no need plus it would be debatable whether a suction one would pass due to security of fitting.
