I've posted in here before about running an older Bentley or Rolls as an almost daily driver (If you've got it you might as well use it) smile

Part of me is saying to go for it, and hang the consequences. And part of me is telling me not to ruin a fine gentlemans conveyance just because I want to act like a bounder and POOP POOP at the poor people lining the gutters.

I don't want to spend more than about £15k but I've seen a few R-Types for that sort of money that look in good nick.

I want something with vintage looks and loads of leather, and a big steering wheel, and can keep up on the motorway (about 80 without killing itself).

Trouble is, it would need to be quite sturdy... although I look after my cars, they do lead quite a hectic life by vintage standards... they live outside in all weathers. I drive them fast. I shag in them/on them and leave them parked outside bars all night.

Is it going to be as cool as I would like to imagine, or am I opening pandora's box with my intended abuse?

smile

I did it for six years with a MKVI, so why the hell not? It was really scruffy to start off with, so leaving it around town and outside clubs late at night was not a problem. Getting it keyed or walked over just added to the patina.
A MKVI or R type will do 0-60 in 15 seconds, and about a ton top end, so keeping up in modern traffic is no problem.

Nice thing, but huge, and not as chuckable as a MKVI/R type.

Get a big bore/small boot MKVI, manual.

I think that running a classic Bentley daily would make you second in the cool stakes only to someone running a tank, I should think smile

Can't offer any useful advice, mind. And that link to a for sale car above- I didn't realise that they were so (reletively) little money!

Yeah... Well, I've just posted up in the business section. Maybe a spot of wedding hire would help the old girl pay for herself smile

There are one or two, and one with a B80 engine in it too.

8 cylinder version of the B60 in the MKVI/R Type/S1.

Worth looking up the 'Scalded cat' which was an experimental MKVI with the B80, loaned to the Duke of Edinburgh for a fortnight, it took them two years to get it back off him hehe

when i was a kid, my mother used to run a 3 1/2 derby bentley as a every day car. it was a rebodied special done to look like a vintage bentley.

it was as shabby as you like, no side screes, the doors where vinal things that just pres studded to the body.

what a car - 'normal' people used to look at us as if where mad!

id love to run a s1 or the like as a everyday car.

supercool, partuicually if its a bit shabby
