retro look cd players
Discussion
I am looking to fit a cd player in my 1980's mercedes sl 500 and want something that is in keeping with the car, hence topic. I have seen the becker mexico 7948 ( take a look if you haven't seen it, its georgeous!)at £1000 upwards, but i have no need for the sat nav and realy don't want to spend that much on a stereo! Can anyone sujest any other units?
Many Thanks

Well possibly, Nakamichi make some very understated head units (no silver fascia, cascading neon dolphins here) even has a volume knob!, just a thought and they sound good as wellMany Thanks

Becker Grand Prix is a marvellous retro(ish) unit, cheap, reliable, understated and with great functions and sound. Pioneer make some ageless units with changable display colours and the Blaupunkt Monte Carlo is definately worth a closer look.

I would take a period radio and wire in an MP3 connector. All Becker radios of that time have an an aux in at the back and it is simple to connect up a flying lead with a 3.5mm socket. Then you can play anything through it (MP3, SatNav, phone), all hidden away without having to cut metal on the car.

Have a look at some of the Mercedes forum in the US, I got a lot of good info from them
