Tucker Torpedo, all too easy. Fantastic car, i've never seen one in the flesh. What a fabulous thing to behold. Air cooled flat six engine, originally to be a Lycoming helicopter engine IIRC.

And the film is a good one to rent, even though the conspiracy angle was done to death. I reckon it really was just a case of under capitalisation.

I remember Fast Lane (I think) doing an article about this car. Superb thing.
One USP was being able to fit 3 American football linebackers in uniform and pads in the back seat I think! And they used that in their marketing.

I think there's a film about its creation too...

I'd have got this only because I've seen the film (a couple of times years ago)

One of the few cars I could recognise too grumpy

Forgot to add:

335 cu inch Franklin [b]helicopter[/] engine developing 166 bhp @ 3200 rpm

Only 51 were made. I think the blurb said that this is the only one in Europe.

For me she stole the show. biggrin

Lovely car. Saw the film a while back, mildly interesting it was too.

Useless trivia- in the film, the car that flips over was actually a shell put onto a Chevrolet Corvair (iirc).

I've never seen one in the flesh either.

Didn't they use a Studebaker?

There was a Moss Green Tucker Torpedo sold in 2006 for $577,500

Link with info and a dozen photos. The interior, with interchangeable front and rear seat, is beautiful.

The Tucker that was crashed in this film was a Studebaker fitted with a replica Tucker front end. This car is now in the Tallahasse Antique Car Museum in Tallahassee, Florida.
