This seems a little light- no Bamford or Ten Tenth's entry for a start but still pretty tasty! Extremely disappointed that there are no straight eight Alfas in the pre-war but pretty amazed by the number of 917s lining up. Also still remember slightly regretfully the amazing first classic where we had 15 original Ferrari GTOs listed and 13 racing! All for a crowd of about 10 of us (or so it seemed) as well. A sad indictment of the fact that they are now so valuable that we may never see that again

As an confirmatory anecdote of how things are changing I well remember in 2002 one of the first plateau cars running with "En Rodage" painted in white wash on the back. It means "Running in"! But last week I had a call from someone here at Le Mans who wanted to build a copy of the Cunningham 1962 lightweight - dry sump, wide angle head, Lucas fuel injection and all. He was going to build it for the 2010 Classic but first, before getting other people involved, I phoned Petersport. No, they didn't want any more E types )especially low drag copies) but if he really wanted to race then he should go out and look for a car that already done Le Mans. I asked for a suggestion and quick as a flash came back the answer. "We don't have many Chapparals" they said! So if you want an entry, you now know what to buy.

That would be fun! Remember that first Classic as the most amazing event and the one in 2004 with the final race between the Renault and the Porsche 936 was fantastic for the emotion it evoked. It is great that people are now discovering it but yet that marvelous feeling of being one of the select few who are aware of this amazing secret will obviously go too...
Entry list as a whole is a bit stronger than last year it seems. There were quite a lot of Shelby GT350s and such like seemingly grid-filling last year whereas there are few weak links this time. It does seem that there are less of the slightly bizarre cars though and while I am not besotteed with Ferraris they are certainly lower in numbers for the 50s plateaus. Furthermore someone needs to tell them that one V12 Matra isn't enough!!

Love your cars by the way- while not in the same league my father has something called a Kougar which is a kind of Caterham Seven on steroids and that is powered by a 3.8XK on triple SUs. It is enormous fun and the torque and noise of that engine are simply awesome
