Jaguar XK120 DHC
Discussion
Rarest model? Not by a long chalk! 1471 LHD drophead 120's were made and 294 RHD. Now if you want a 3.8 roadster (not DHC) XK150 auto then only one was made! The acknowledged rarest today of all the XK series is the 3.8S XK150 roadster RHD. 16 made in all but finding a 120 FHC RHD is also very tough. Very few survive out of the 194 made.

True, but I was referring to the coachwork, not the engine spec or LHD/RHD version.now that is wonderful to see!
great links, looks like it went through a very extensive resto indeed and the end result appears to be a really tasty looking example now indeed
always were really luverly looking machines those 120's IMO
top job indeed!

The car was specially built in the 1950's and for many years lived in Surrey. I don't know who built it but will shortly be speaking to the owner about it. It has four seats which to me denotes he had it done when he had a young family perhaps?
Of course if you want "strange" XK150s there is also an estate variant kicking about. The one I knew about was dubbed a "foxbat" but googling for some more info on it I came across a second one which looks better. The foxbat basically had the back of a Morry thou traveller spliced into the rear of the 150. The second one onhttp://www.blenheimgang.com/forum/index.php?showto...
looks more resolved.

Another rare XK. The Rixon Bucknall Special. Built on an XK140 chassis supplied new by Jaguar. The only time Jaguar supplied a new chassis I believe.
This can be considered a special coachbuilt Jag then? Or was it built long after the chassis was supplied? To be honest I wouldn't give it another look if I didn't know what is was... Sorry! ops:

Coachbuilt Jag - built new in 1956. Owners idea (colonel Rixon Bucknall a well known motoring enthusist) was for the best of both worlds i.e. vintage looks and modern performance. Featured in Autosport 1957.
Very high spec. i.e. C type spec. engine, C.R. gearbox, scintilla magneto, borrani rims, armstrong selectaride shocks, competition seats, magnesium alloy body, limited slip diff, marchal headlamps etc. etc. Nice dash too..

Ah, the Rixon Bucknall special. A while since I've seen it. It was written up a year or so back in Classic & Sports Car after it changed hands. I remember it went on the JDC E type register's 30th anniversary tour in 1991. If I'm right the registration is RB 1916 or something like that.
I sadly admit I didn't like it in 1991 nor do I like it now. The proportions seem wrong and it has a 1930's flavour with more modern mechanicals. The shape seems all wrong being quite a wide car with a squashed grille, almost square in shape. Why square fly screens and not the usual half moon shape? The whole car just seems a mish mash with no real proportion. Guess ther owner likes it though!

That's why I wouldn't give it a second look. It has too much 'kit car' flavour to be taken serious IMHO...Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
