.......is mine biggrin

And its the second time in a couple of years!

Actually it was a nice surprise because when they did the photoshoot they had earmarked the Daimler Dart for the cover photo and I only found out that my car was on the cover when I wandered into WH Smiths today!

It could have been worse - at least you were out of shot

Does this mean Benson will now become a show queen with a couple of the magazines on the back seat one showing the front page the other open to his photo in the article and "DO NOT TOUCH" signs every where?

I can see more chrome and S/S bits being ordered biglaugh

Congratulations, I had one of their writers email me about my lancia with a view to having it feature in readers cars. Not appeared yet, but fingers crossed!

yes Pretty much spot on Nigel but it also pi$$es of some other members of the owners club. Mainly the ones whose cars always appear in the club's magazine smile

It does add to the history of the car though.

My Riley was a 'Reader's Car' in a classics mag. a few years back, I was paid £100 for sending in three photos and a couple of hundred words - must have taken me all of twenty minutes.

Congratulations. A lovely car (my first car was a P4 whcih i learned to drive on 12 years ago)

As for offering the cars for free: you're right about vanity and adding history (I doubt it will add too much value, unless its something like "ben on a film" or "been on TV"

I'm writing a book about Aston Martins at the moment, and almost everyone I have contacted have been delighted to let me use images of their car for free.

Only one has asked "how much can I expect to get paid?", which is surprising, as I;m certainly not writing this book for money, and I dont expect to get paid anything. I'll use someone eles's car instead.

In my experience most AM owners are alright but for some free photos would be for vanity only and others just don't believe in free

My E type was borrowed by the BBC to make the series "The car's the star"; I arrived at 2pm and got home at 6am without a word of thanks nor a free copy of the final filming. Oh, the actual running time in the end was under three minutes! Jaguar borrowed it for the 60th anniversary of Jaguar at the NEC; it came back badly bent at the back where a panel fell on it. Evo borrowed it to compare against the XK when it came out in 1997(?) and returned it with the tank about empty. I no longer lend my cars out to anybody at all although I receive loads of calls to place one or another on display. They won't even pay me for the diesel to tow it there, let alone my time. I am not a registered charity and my time is as precious as the next man's so frankly nowadays I just can't be bothered to put myself out. If they won't, neither will I. I am sure that when my new car is finished at the end of the year I'll get loads of calls for that too, but, since I have an enormous amount of time and money invested in the project then it is only fair that if they want to use it to pull in spectators then I am entitled to a small reward for my time and effort. I don't mind supplying photos or whatever since that takes but a few seconds but for the rest - no more. What do you think? Am I being reasonable?

No, pretty much spot on.

In fairness they did tell me to send in a receipt for petrol but I haven't filled it since as its been garaged.

Their idea of refreshments a hot lunch though was appalling. A single cup of coffee from a not so local cafe and a luke warm sausage roll.

It was fooking frezing and blowing a gale and there was nowher to shelter other than the journos cars.

I probably wouldn't do another one.

I think you're being very reasonable. Someone asking for photos of their car for a book and asking for payment is a bit OTT in my book- especially as I can get images of other peoples cars just as easily.

But giving your time and the actual car does require a lot of effort on your part, which should be rewarded.

Will

PS Does this mean if I pay for the fuel, you'll take me out for a ride in one???

Hmm, amongst friends there is already rather a long queue for the new one which will be the only one in the world, but the D type is the kiddie if you want speed and noise. 0-60 in 4.8 since the engine was rebuilt and 108 db (I know, I've been refused at Goodwood with the dratted meter) but if you want to pay for the petrol - about 6mpg when caning it hard on the circuit!!

You can all thank me for the lovely weather this weekend too; I brought it back from the Maldives. biggrin

Thank you.

Why wouldn't a MM be PH material? It may nit be a road burner but lots of PH'ers are just as interested in older vehicles as they are in powerful ones.

Just as far as I was concerned PH seems more about power and fast cars in general, something a MM never was or will be. I have to confess to being more of a classic car lover than modern cars - but it is the modern cars that enable me to make a living.
