Having this week refreshed my cars radiators with water / antifreeze mix I thought perhaps it worthwhile posting the reminder on antifreeze for use in vintage engines. Blue is the only colour antifreeze that should be used, I almost purchased the red stuff in error!

Apparently the new red colour antifreeze has some kind of added ingredient that eats the gasket joints used on the older vehicles. A chap used the red stuff in his vintagede R.R. and within a few weeks water leaks sprang in all sorts of areas! When I picked up my antifreeze from my regular auto shop the guy behind the counter warned me that it was the red I was buying, knowing that I run vintage cars, hence saving me some agro.

Not that simple sadly, varies from make to make, some are a safer and longer lasting product, just be aware that there are differeces and enquire as to the products composition.Tempus
