Love it since a teenager. And since I need a 2nd car . . .

Is it worth trying? What are the dagerzones . . . apart from rust wink

What should I pay for a solid one?

But I was wondering about the Alfetta.

That made me think! I've found a hard example from an Alfa specialist. It's almost irresistible.

Ran a '79 one everyday in the early 90's & they are FABULOUS carsthumbup
Watch out for worn transaxles (expensive to sort)& rubbish plastic trims on the later ones. Obviously as you've already mentioned the R word........I used to spend a couple of days every other month going over mine & sorting rust (& I run a resto business!!!!), they do rust like no other car in the world, but in my experience the later ones are markedly better than the earlier cars.
Good luck & go for it, they are lovely things.
Al.

I've always wanted one of these since I saw James Bond get chased around by a bunch of West German Police E28 5 Series BMW's in Octopussy.

I've been to have a look at a couple, I love the shape and the very sexy front end.

When you buy it Dink, post loads of piccies for us to admire!

Just got an advice of a Dutch GTV club prez: "cars like these need serious attention. You have to take serious note of that. A daily driver it is not . . ."

scratchchin

I knew it.

I also know I'm the kinda guy that doesn't wash his car (often), don't mind the mess on the floor and parking scratches wtf . . .

I will see that '84 car and drive it though.

Those wheels are sh*t. Hopefully he has the originals around somewhere. Otherwise I have a set of 4, but very far from you :P

Check for gearbox issues - the synchros are often worn, hard changing from 2nd - 1st is a sure indication. Also, the actual linkages can become worn, for lack of a better word, so slotting the right gear gets tricky. Driveshaft vibrations are also a common worry, I found. The speedo sending unit was also dodgy, so ask about that. I also had problems with the airflow meter on mine, but it was eventually sorted. Electric windows also worked poorly, when they worked at all!

Also check the interior trim - my door panels worked loose, and the front seat mountings, as my friend sat in mine and broke them - granted, he is a big bloke! (260-odd lbs).

Good luck, and enjoy the engine note!

Sadly my abiding image of an Alfa GTV is of the new one standing in the showroom of Roger Clark's dealership in Narborough during the 1980's. I'd always fancied one but was worried about the lace bodywork reputation. The headlamp reflector was already brown and rusty even though the car was brand new. Such a great car, like the Alfetta, but I never dared own one. Just also check the gearbox linkage is working properly since that used to be a bugbear too with the transaxle Dink. However, if all is well and the car well sorted, I will envy you!
