Hi all, just a reminder that the LE JOG rally starts this saturday in Lands end. i have never been along but i have found they are passing by my part of the country so i will swing by and have a look. they are stopping at the Merry harriers pub http://www.merryharriers.co.uk/
so i will get to see them all.
I hope to enter this next year in my MG so it will be nice to see the entrants this year.
I am also thinking of entering the Three Castles rally in Wales in June next year. Has anyone here done it before?

Hi TC, not done either LEJOG or the Three Castles as both are bit on the pricey side. If you are thinking of taking up classic rallying, which IMO is the most fun you can have in an old car, without taking your clothes off, why not investigate some of the HRCR events. These are one day day road rallies, either run in daytime on a regularity and special test basis, or night rallies with just the regularity.
they offer basically the same as the big events like LEJOG, but at a fraction of the cost. There is also the prestige of a national championship to aim towards.
have a look on the website

There is a beginners series next year, which might be a good starting point, called the HRCR 100 series, these events are a step up from the classic run type event but dont have the full on special test format that the championship rounds do.
If you decide to get involved you will love it, which ever level you jump in at, mind you your Car might not!

The north is a hotbed of classic rallying with some brilliant events. The Berwick classic is probably one of the best, organised by Berwick and District motor club, it's run over two days in the Borders and has some a mixture of good fast tests and challenging regularity road sections.

Three Bentleys, a 4 1/2, a Derby Special, and an R type Continental.
Many years ago I was going to enter my Bentley MKVI, spoke to the man himself very briefly on the phone, and he fobbed me off, said the car would be too much of a handfull and suggested it wouldnt be up to it. Yet he knew nothing of me or the car at all. I was not happy, so I have had mixed feelings towards this event and the organiser eversince.
Nice pics BTW, and a lovely dog.

Thanks Balmoral, she is enjoying her first week out and about.
The event looks hard work. The ali bodied bentley was crewed by two women who looked like they knew what they were doing. They had Rallye des Alps jackets on and the car, aswell as the other open bentley had many stickers of previous rallies all over the world. They said they had just come through a river that had flooded the road. the tide mark was very high up!!
Good luck to them all and one day i shall join them.

The two Ladies in the Bentley were going very well when they came past us high in the very dark sleety Yorkshire dales. Only them and the Riley (I think) were left out of the really early cars.
I have a healthy respect for all the crews taking part but especially those in 80 year old open top cars!!.
