Rover P6 (not V8!)
Discussion
As there are P6 experts here, I thought I'd ask you this...
My P6 2200 gearbox (which isn't in P6 or any other Rover, but that's another story) is fine in 1,2,3,4th, but in reverse it sounds like it's just trying to get into another gear at the same time. Not far in, just enough that the dogs are grating.
It goes backwards fine, but with the grating sounds.
Any idea what needs adjusting? I guess it's somewhere in the linkage but if you've come across it before you might be able to save me some time.

Not overly familiar with a P6 manual (have a V8 auto).
I do know engaging reverse is a common issue with these boxes. I had a similar problem with a 2000TC I owned, it would require a double D clutch effort to get it into 1 and R. It was the linkage.
Most of the time, the linkage simply requires adjustment. Any reasonable arches garage can sort that for you. It sounds partially engaged to me. A knackered P6 gearbox will whine very noticeably in forward gears. If the box is toast, they are quite reasonable to either recondition or alternatively opt for a PG1 conversion and turn it into a 5-sp and part-ex the old gearbox.
Regarding P6 Owners Club forum, it's been closed for a couple of months now. Other than the usual complaining about spares prices, I can't think of a 'legal issue' that would force a closure. I hope it opens soon, there are some real P6 experts there and they've saved me a small fortune in answering questions for me.
