Have been trawling the web, went to see a 1930 Morris Minor on the weekend, pretty little thing, two seat, open top, boat tail, £7k, good value, I'd have bought it but I am 6 foot 3 and it was just too small.

Requirements are

Less than £10k (have got £20k from healey sale but really not wanting something so valuable, Healey was pristine which I had a issue with) Might be convinced to spend more for the right car.

Two seat

VSCC eligible

open top

bit sporty

Fancy MG TA although not VSCC eligible as only post 1930 MG's eligible are OHC

love a riley special, cheap ones are sold but expensive ones somehow look too expensive.

must be a going concern not a project.

Anywhere in UK or europe, Australia a bit far.

Your recomendations please.

Could be tricky....
I can't get in my brother's SWB Mulliner 2 seater Austin, but there is this (LWB?) one For Sale....
http://www.classic-sportscar.co.uk/Cars/Austin7Nip...
It may be eligible if there are enough Nippy bits.

There are some times Ulsteriod Reps round £10K.
I can drive the GF's A7 Chummey - but they may not be sporty enough.
One for sale on prewarcars, but prices appear to be rising.

Also around £10K one can get Ford A which appear fun in trails and
a few MkIV Riley 9 tourers have been just over that.

I would also recommend an Austin Ulster, (replica).

I am 6' 2" and have no problems in mine and it is brilliant fun, (picture in my profile). Costs virtually nothing to run as well.

Not sure what else you could get for that money and that would be that much fun.

just spoke to the dealer, as you say, its a LWB version, very late A7 and based on the ruby chassis, he says at 6 foot 3 I might be ok if short legs and long body which I am, might have to go have a look.

Pre 1932 Austin 7 including the chummy used a shorter chassis than the Post 1931 one used for the Ruby etc.

On the Chummy the rear axle - and rear seats/body work - are canterlevered off the very short chassis frame. The Ruby is similar - but there is more room. One will see long or short chassis mentioned in the adverts for A7 specials.

However the VSCC are getting a bit stuffy about LWB A7 specials.

So I've heard, when I spoke to Nicky Paul Baron he was vague about the VSCC eligability of the car, according to VSCC website Nippy's are 'in' but Rubys's 'out', I think this car might be a bit of a bitsa.

We got 20k for the Healey and really only want to spend half on something prewar, looks like we'll have to spend a bit more to get what I really want, more I look the better idea I get, am quite set on MG PA/PB or J2.

Who knows.....so many cars so little time.

There are a couple of PAs for sale at c£16k on the Octagon Car Club website. There is also one at £22 at Sussex Sports Cars but that has been on for ages and it may be worth seeing if an offer would be acceptable. I can't get on to the MGCC MMM Register website cars for sale page at the moment.

The PB has an extra 90cc over the PA, but more importantly has much better gear ratios with the gap between 2nd and 3rd reduced. They're both 4 fwd gears.

Have you considered Singer Le Mans or Wolseley Hornet Special?

hi, thanks for the reply, I have considered Wolseley and Singer, I had an enquirey about the Healey I sold from a chap with a Singer for sale.

The fact is none are as pretty as a J2/PA/PB.

Looks like the budget is going to be busted.
