Hi,

Does anybody know how I go about registering a 55 year old vehicle for which I have no documents at all? I have the engine number and chassis number but thats about it. I don't even know if it has been registered in the past.

I have had a look on the DVLA's website but these conditions are not discussed properly.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

ive just bought a mini thats the same - have engine and chassis number, but the reg number and paper work has been lost.

ive spoke to the dvla and they told me i had to get the car into a mot'd state and take it with a mot and insurance to be inspected - they then would issue a v5c and a reg number.

because it has been off the road since before the 76 / 83 dvla computer updates they cannot find (or dont want to) the reg number using the info i have.

they sent me a 'help' pack that contains a v55/5 form - expalins it all

hope this helps

The DVLA has a scheme for recovering number plates, or getting an age related plate. The scheme is supported and relies upon the various club and registers, which help verify that the car is that age, and possibly that it is entitled to wear that plate. The club can possibly help you find the original number. Various car historian also offer a service, but I'd talk to the club registrar first.

ETA: I wondered what the car was - saw the other thread, it's a Fregie tractor - the DVLA 765/1 lists 3 Fregie clubs - the first has a DVLA officer listed. Worth a call?

as far as i know the recovery scheme only works if you know the number plate, or the car did at one point have a post 83 v5c

without the above the dvla have no way of finding stuff out.

Thanks for the replies guys, DVLA are sending me the forms for an age related plate and I will need to join an owners club to get them to verify the age of the vehicle etc but membership will be a benefit during the restoration anyway so thats no trouble!

Thanks for the advice thumbup
