Lotus Elite

WHat I really really think that I want is a Lotus Elite with the firepump engine. Trouble is I haven't seen any in the flesh for a long time - let alone been in one.

I think the chances of finding one to hire are zero. I am competing at the same venue as some of the Paul Matty Championship Cars but no Elite on the entry list.

Short of contacting the owner's club where might find one?

Paul Matty has a couple for sale at the moment. Other than that, they do come up in the Club Lotus magazine, at auctions or in the classifieds of C&SC magazine occasionally.

there was a zetec powered "replica" at Donington that was a tad tasty, based on an elan chassis and a body from fibreglass services I believe. IMHO one of the prettiest car designs of all time

Was that the Spyder version you were thinking of? Can't say I was keen, if it was - I love the original Elite, but they've corrupted the clean lines a little, IMHO - it looked a bit of an amorphous caricature of the original, I thought.

There was a very accurate replica caled the Encore Supe 95, based on a Spyder chassis with a Ford CVH engine, marketed in the early 90's by a guy called John Hoestler, but the project folded when he went to work fr Lotus themselves - conflict of interest, unfortunately.
