For the last year I've just been running my classics cars as my everyday transport ( I don't do many miles and mainly work from home). But it's almost 14months since I was last insured on a normal policy that had my full no claims bonus on it. I don't want to start loosing the bonus so I wondered if anyone knows of a classic policy that will accept it.

Thanks,
Lindon.

I'm not aware of any company that does, as by definition most specific classic car policies are fixed risk agreed value with limited mileage, and you usually have to have access to a 'normal' car, so I'd be very wary of any insurance company that does offer no-claims on a classic policy.

I'm insured through Lancaster Insurance on a classic policy, limited mileage to 15k miles, agreed value etc and I get no claims on it too.

Although it won't effect your premium (Classic policies aren't usually subject to any discount for NCB), the majority of companies I've dealt with are happy to keep your No Claims 'alive' on the policy, provided you inform them of this requirement (verbally, when you get the quote, backed up in writing when you submit the forms) when you take out the insurance.

You do normally need to have a 'normal' main car to qualify for a Classic policy in the first place, but in my case this is a company car, insured by my employer.

When I went from many years of running classics everyday to something a bit more modern I asked my insurer to write a letter stating I had X years claim free everyday classic motoring with them, this was then translated into ncb on the modern. I can see no reason why your current insurer cannot write a similar letter stating you are leaving them with X years NCB. Then, if you keep a clean record with the classics you can do the same again and have a written paper chain of effective NCB should you need it on a future modern.

Actually the wording of most of the policies is that you must have access to another car, there is no restriction on this being "normal" or a "main" car. Hence I've got an '81 928S and a '66 MGB both on classic policies (Porker has a 6k mileage limit but the 'B is unlimited). I specifically asked the underwriters to investigate whether another classic car met their "access to another car" clause and have assurances in writing that this is the case (they also admitted that they had no-one else on their books that only ran classic cars!!!!). Only drawback is that I have to have two seperate policies (one for each car, but both with the same company). Since the 'B is only costing me about £100 fully-comp, the saving on a combined policy would be minimal.
