Righty O having a problem getting classic car insurance on the Mk2 Escort I am restoring.

Usual crap in that since I am under 25 I must therefore be a chav barry boy drive with my hat on backwards and my idea of restoring is putting spinners on it and a sub woofer.

Are there any companies that insure under 25s on limited use classic policys? Best I have found is 23 and while thats not far off I still find the principal rather annoying.

Just so we are clear no I am not barrying it up I am turning it into a tarmac rally/track car over the coming months with a view to have it 100% spot on for next spring, however it would be nice to be able to drive it between places for the work needed that I cannot do rather than stick it on a low loader all the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HIC/Adrian Flux do classic insurance from either 18-19 upwards..

Dont expect it to be particularly cheap though - you might get 25% or so off but you probably wont earn any NCB.

I did:

23
No NCB
Car garaged
5,000 miles p.a
Breakdown cover

Triumph TR5 PI

£266.00

Go with Lancaster. Very reasonable and always helpful if you can give evidence of experience with RWD too.

Part ownership. I'm a Building Surveyor and the old ladies around here have nothing to fear....until I see the fuel bill...

Lancaster were the cheapest quote I could find and you can build up NCB with a classic, just check your policy.

Remind your fellow owner(s) that it does the car no good to sit around unused and take it for a run as often as you can - look outside

How old are you?

Heritage Vehicle Insurance are very good if you're 23 and seem to provide decent cover.

Lancaster, as I have said, are good too.

Peter Best will insure you under 25 if your engine capacity is lower than 2000cc - might be worth a punt.

Hastings direct will do it if you are aged 21 or above - give them a go.

Hope this helps.

It was only insured about a month ago and has already done 500 miles so far.
Just sorting all the niggles out after it being stood for two years prior to me using it.

P.S always wanted a GT6...

Combover, I'm over double your age young man

Owning to the facts of an idiot purchaser, a con-artist restorer and another factor I can't put yet, I now own, tho' you'd never know it to look at the car, the most expensive GT6 in the world cry

I'll swap it with your TR5 right now - where do you want to meet ?

Ahh yes, but it's all yours. Do you have a pic?
I saw a gorgeous BRG GT6 Mk3 at Oulton on Bank Holiday Monday and must have stood drooling for a good half hour before I realised people were looking at me...spin

If there's nothing you can do now about the price, just go and enjoy it!

I'll post a photo in my profile sometime this week, it looks good in a photo

You're right nothing I can do about price - it's the continuing price that concerns me

As soon as a couple more expensive issues are deal with I'm sure I'll enjoy it more

I've been trying to drive it since July last year but I keep getting let down by "specialists"

I had it "completed" to take it to Classic Le Mans last year but no way would it have made it to Dover even, it's only been on one (PH) run since I got it and that was one of the many occasions it had fuel leaks (on previous carbs, 5 gal in 80 miles)

I mentioned all this as a warning (I should rolleyes have know better with my previous experiences)

Last whinge - the quality of new Triumph parts I have bought from various sources is appalling

ETA plural to "specialist"

Good price - is the car modified at all?

I was meaning a bit younger than 23 with regards to the not getting it THAT cheap, but you cant argue with £266 either way.
