Mother father and daughter are doing very well and are expected to be able to leave the paddock after a few days. No flowers but fuel vouchers most welcome.

Er - kill me! No, only joking! The one on the right is mine plus an Ecurie Ecosse long nose (not shown of course). Wish I had a real one though but that is as likely as pigs flying I guess. They are both Lynx cars in the photo and consecutive chassis plates funnily enough - built at exactly the same time in 1989. The "baby" wasn't there when we parked up but someone obviously brought it along and the photo was in last year's brochure so Petersport kindly let me have a copy.

Tony that is just a terrific photo, I would love that miniature for my grandaughter: she's just coming up to three and is a petrolhead already!!
I had an XKSS replica, although I can't for the life of me remember what make it was.
But in many respects of course it was superior to the original with IRS rear, radial tyres and electronic ignition.
It was brutally quick!!
But the thing that brings Jaguar twin cam engines to life more than anything is Weber carbs.
Properly jetted they enable the engine to develop the power it was meant to.

My mate has an XK120 replica based on XJ6 mechanicals, 4.2 litre with triple Webers. It's pretty rapid, but I've never been in it when he's given it full whack... He was telling me the other day about a trip up the M1 in the rain where he was limited to 60mph because above that speed the hood blew off; apparently he got 42mpg eek

In response to the above posts I would prefer to believe he actually got 4.2 mpg since I have never got more than 16mpg out of my Lynx. 45DCOE Webers are just pumps - put your foot down and watch the fuel gauge (if you have one) drop alarmingly. A couple of years back we did all the mountain passes in the Alps and over 10 days the car used 600 litres at an average consumption of 10mpg. Even the motorway trip back gave just 16mpg and that on a 3.31 axle which I had changed from a short 3.54 which it had previously.

I hope the guy is there next year at the Classic with the miniature D type despite the new style of overtaking manoeuvre!. He is from the South of France (Nice area from the plate) and if so I wouldn't mind one for myself for fun.

That matches my opinion of Webers - great for track but way crude for road use - and I too would have expected a 4.2 XK on triple Webers to drink like a fish. But since he was noting mileage in between brimming the tank I trust his figures, more or less. FWIW his gearing is such that he's doing about 1500rpm at 60mph.

OTOH he also says that at his "constant 60mph" he was being overtaken by every truck, which makes me think his speedo calibration is out and he was really doing <56mph. If this is due to the wrong speedo drive ratio or similar it'll make his mileage overread as well so his mpg would have been less.

1500 rpm @ 60mph? That is so highly geared I've only seen one old car like it and the acceleration was not too bright. It was a V12 E type fitted with a series 1 XJ6 overdrive box and an american 2.88 rear axle. Even then over a 10 day 2,000 mile tour he got only 23mpg and that on SU carbs. With a 3.31 axle my Lynx is turning at 3,000 rpm at 70mph approximately. Either his speedo is alarmingly out or he is dreaming - or both.

That car looks so good in that picture! I know what I'll be saving for! edit: not the small one obviously

Btw, on the subject of Webers etc: I'm running two sidedraught Dell'Ortos on my MGB, with a Piper 285 cam etc etc, and it doesn't use much more more than my dad's standard MGB (with new SU carbs etc) when driven in the same way. It does use more fuel when driven fast, but that's only because it's a going lot faster then!
All comes down to proper setting up imho.
