they do put some interesting combinations of cars together - the Ferrari 206 Dino was mostly running (quite competitively) with the formula Fords - it got taken to pieces by the Mk1 Escort (among other things) in the invitation race though. Escort would have been even quicker without the back seats in too...
That Elan was very quick, showed up a lot of serious machinery like the ex-TWR Rover V8.
