As a teenager at Donington park in the 1980s I remember the Modports races and a certain Lotus 7 called the Brick, or Black Brick ?
Does anyone else remember it ? or have any web links or know what happened to it ? or was it all just a dream - obviously it impressed me at the time and iv'e often wondered if it's still around.

Good News: You weren't dreaming. It was known as the Black Brick. Last week I actually saw an article in an old Autosport from the '80s that showed its development over the years, sprouting a wide front nose, rear wing, even side pods.

Bad News: Threw it out last week. sorry.

I'd forgotten that one!!

Afraid i don't know what happened to it but certainly remember seeing it race plenty of times at Donington in the 80's(bloody ugly but bloody effective car IIRC)?

Maybe someone on the L7 club website could help?

Whilst on the subject of forgotten race cars does anyone recall the Bell and Colvill Cobra that raced extensively during the 80's?
First saw it at Donington in the 80's and was very taken by it. Remember thinking thats what a cobra should look like, no chrome, no windscreen, painted black all over with a decent driver to boot.
I can remember watching it numerous times throughout the 80's but i didn't see it from the early nineties. Anyone know what happened to it?

The Bell and Colvill Cobra - God that's the second car I remember,
Just like it was yesterday, it was doing over a ton through the start finish line at Donnington with its wheels spinning trying to get some grip,I sadly heard one of those guy's passed away a while ago.
A mate of mine who was present at that race and is not into cars reminded me about it the last time I saw him 2 years ago - even he remembered.
If you are are regular at Donno,it might be worth you knowing about the supporters club, (if you don't already) £15 to join single and £25 with a spouse,Last year it included approx 15+ free race meetings and a free track day plus Tea in a MUG for 50p,it's an absolute bargain and nice people involved to boot.

Wow the memories are flooding back -Thanks

I was aware of the supporters club but wasn't aware it was such a bargain and what good work it does.
Certainly worth further investigation so thanks for the info.

Great photos Doug C. Had almost forgotten how "individual" the black brick looked!!

One thing that strikes me from the photo's is how well attended "clubbie" racing was during the 80's. It might be an age thing but it just strikes me that attendances for similar meetings in recent years don't seem to be at the sort of levels enjoyed during the 80's?

That's scary! I remember racing against some of those guys in 1988 at Donington Park.
