Hey Jonna,
I bought my first 2002 in '71: it was a specially ordered 2002ti with a big valve head, high lift cam, twin 40 DCOEs, Koni shocks, 5 speed ZF 'box and low profile Continentals, all done in the factory.
At the time I had my classic and sportscar workshop and the majority of my work was Jaguar.
The wee BMW would utterly devastate any Jaguar, including my 265 BHP e-type on a twisty road.
It was phenomenal and felt dead right at any speed and in any conditions.
I had numerous 2002s through my hands after this, including tiis with Bosch mechanical injection, but none of them went like the first one, and with the Webers it was so tractable and easy to keep in tune.
At a time when the British motor industry was tearing itself to pieces and most of the big stuff like Jaguar, Aston, and Jensen were riddled with design faults and poor quality control, that BMW did not develop a single fault in two years driving; not even a bulb!!
The Turbo is quite frankly just not worth the bother.
They are all left hand drive, are brutally heavy on fuel, very difficult to obtain parts for nowadays, and a nightmare on a wet road due to the turbo lag and the vicious snatch when the boost comes in: but they are good fun!
But not worth the extra over a good ti.
The guy on the other post who says he spent 23K on one quite frankly needs his head looked, no offence to him.
If you buy a really nice car and fit it out with modern tyres, shocks and ignition, you will have a tremendous car to drive, even by modern standards and have something that you can use every day with confidence.
Don't hesitate!

I do like the 2002 in fact it is the only BMW bar M3 E30 I like.
So why don't you combine the two?!

Thanks for the useful comments Jith, although LHD is definately a plus for us now.
I've looked after E21 BMWs for ages, the only thing that worries me a little on a tii is the Mechanical fuel injection and calibrating/looking after it...

Hello Rup,
How are you?
I used to post on here as Iolaire and I lost touch with you when I went to the States.
I'll send you an e-mail to catch up.
If you want to know anything about the mechanical injection give me shout. The first manufacturer to use it was Mercedes and I did tons of work on them: basically the same system on the 2002.
If you keep the filters clean and everything set up properly it is totally reliable and makes the car go like stink! The induction note is also a bonus!
I heard you were in Germany now, who are you working for?

Hi ya mate! Long time no hear! Yes indeed Germany, probably best not to tell who, in public, I made that mistake before and had to suffer the consequences.
We got close to getting sponsored to get into the USA last year, but I didn't get selected in the end.
I heard you came back to live in Scotland- what happened?
I can't believe I missed this thread!?!?
My 2002tii is currently being preeped as we speak for road/trackday usage but is a loooooong way off being finished at the moment. The plan is to keep it looking pretty period but uprate the suspension, brakes, engine etc to give it a useful advantage on the track whilst retaining driveabilty on the road.
It is being painted Porsche Carrera white with refurbed wheels in orange with a chrome rim around the edge. I have a pair of race seats and harnesses ready to go in and will fit either a half or full cage at the same time.
I will post some pics up of my car as it is at the moment if anybody would be interested?

Cheers Bob, yeah I've kept the twin headlights as I think they look a bit more aggressive than the single and give it a mini CSL look to the front end?
I'm also going to fit a turbo black rubber rear spoiler to give the rear a bit more of an edge.
From speaking to the workshop recently I think it still looks pretty much the same now as it did when I took those photo's this time last year!!
Seriously though, the workshop that is working on the car are really very good at what they do and are also currently rebuilding a 90% genuine GT40, a couple of Maserati's etc so I think it's in pretty safe hands.
Was also thinking that some period Alpina stripes for the front valance could work pretty well but don'twant to go too far?

Oh definitley without, that picture was taken in Frnace way back in the early 80's. I don't think that they were on there for very long!!
As for the Dolomite comparison, I agree! I think it's because of the twin headlight conversion on mine, as standard they were a single unit.
